At Made by Google 2026, Google unveiled the Pixel 11 series — the first Pixel phones designed from the ground up for the Gemini Intelligence era, arriving just weeks after the Gemini app crossed 1 billion monthly users.
The Lineup
Four models make up the generation:
- Pixel 11 — the standard model
- Pixel 11 Pro — the pro tier
- Pixel 11 Pro XL — the larger flagship
- Pixel 11 Pro Fold — the foldable
Tensor G6 and Gemini Nano
The heart of the launch is Google Tensor G6, described as the company’s fastest and most powerful chip — running the latest Gemini Nano model on-device. This enables:
- On-device AI features that work instantly, privately, and offline
- The full Gemini Intelligence experience integrated at the hardware level
- Camera AI processing leveraging the new chip’s capabilities
Camera and Durability
The series delivers major camera upgrades (Google’s traditional Pixel strength) and enhanced durability across the lineup. With Gemini Nano on-board, computational photography gains generative capabilities — continuing the trend of AI-defined imaging that began with features like Magic Editor and Best Take.
The On-Device AI Race
The Pixel 11 lands in an increasingly crowded on-device AI market: Meta’s Muse Glimmer targets open-weight local AI on consumer hardware, NVIDIA’s RTX Spark Windows PCs launch in October, and Apple’s on-device strategy continues with Gemini reportedly powering the rebuilt Siri. Google’s advantage is vertical integration — designing the chip (Tensor G6), the model (Gemini Nano), and the phone together.
The Pixel 11 series demonstrates Google’s strategy of making Gemini ubiquitous: 1 billion users in the app, frontier models in the cloud, and now on-device intelligence in every tier of its flagship hardware.
