What Is OpenAI Daybreak?
Daybreak is OpenAI’s answer to Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, which launched last month. Unlike Mythos, which was only shared privately with select organizations, Daybreak is positioned as a broader initiative with industry and government partnerships. OpenAI says Daybreak “brings together the most capable OpenAI models, Codex, and our security partners.”
How Does Daybreak Work?
The system uses a multi-stage pipeline:
- Threat Modeling — Codex Security creates a threat model based on an organization’s codebase
- Attack Path Analysis — Identifies possible attack vectors
- Vulnerability Validation — Validates which vulnerabilities are most likely exploitable
- Automated Detection — Automates detection of high-risk vulnerabilities
What Models Power Daybreak?
Daybreak uses specialized cyber models including GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber and GPT-5.5-Cyber, which began rolling out last week. OpenAI is preparing to “deploy increasingly more cyber-capable models” as the initiative expands.
