Black Forest Labs has released FLUX Upscale, a new standalone FLUX Tool and API endpoint that regenerates any video at a higher resolution — up to native 4K.
The Problem It Solves
AI-generated video in HD still needs another step before delivery: broadcast, campaign, and big-screen formats all require more pixels. Existing options fall short in different ways:
- Local upscalers lose quality at broadcast and campaign resolutions
- High-quality upscalers can be slow when processing video at scale
- General-purpose tools miss artifacts specific to generated video
FLUX Upscale addresses the last point directly: it understands FLUX 3 output natively and fixes things general-purpose upscalers miss, such as smudged faces or gridded artifacts on textures like water and grass.
Two Modes
FLUX Upscale runs in two modes, letting users choose between consistency and repair depth:
- Precise — 4 steps at $0.07/mp/s. Faster and cheaper; the better choice when identity or reference details must stay consistent.
- Creative — 8 steps at $0.10/mp/s. Uses more steps to push repair and detail generation. Can change or replace identity, so reference consistency is lower.
The upscale_factor parameter supports 1.5x, 2x, and 3x — from HD input, that lands at roughly 1080p, 2K, and 4K.
Availability
FLUX Upscale is available now via the BFL API and playground, joining the growing FLUX Tools family (which includes FLUX Erase and FLUX VTO virtual try-on).
The release continues BFL’s rapid expansion following FLUX 3 — its multimodal “real world models” announced in July — and the FLUX 3 Video generation capabilities detailed earlier in August. For professional video pipelines, the generation + upscale pairing now covers the full path from prompt to delivery-ready 4K.
