What Makes Incognito Chat Different From Other Private AI Modes?
Other AI chatbots offer “temporary” or “incognito” modes, but they still log conversations on their servers. Google keeps Gemini temporary chat data for up to 72 hours. ChatGPT stores temporary chats for up to 30 days. Claude keeps incognito chats for a minimum of 30 days. Meta’s Incognito Chat is fundamentally different: messages use end-to-end encryption and are not stored on servers at all.
How Does the Technology Work?
Incognito Chat is built on Meta’s Private Processing technology, which was previously deployed for processing data in WhatsApp. When a user ends their chat session, all messages are permanently deleted. There is no server-side log, no chat history, and no way for Meta — or anyone else — to reconstruct the conversation.
When and Where Will Incognito Chat Be Available?
The feature will roll out “over the coming months” in both WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. It represents Meta’s response to growing concerns about AI chatbot privacy, particularly in light of lawsuits where ChatGPT logs became central evidence in high-profile cases.
