Anthropic announced on July 8, 2026 that Claude Cowork — its agentic workspace for automating real work across the browser and the operating system — is expanding from desktop to the web and to iOS and Android. The move is paired with a surprising data point: the people using Cowork most are not developers, but business professionals.
The Expansion
Cowork is now reachable from any browser at claude.ai and from the dedicated iOS and Android apps. The mobile apps are not scaled-down shells: they support starting, reviewing, and approving Cowork sessions, so a task begun on a laptop can be checked and signed off from a phone. Sessions sync across devices in real time through the existing Claude workspace model.
Who Is Actually Using It
Anthropic said its internal analytics show that roughly 65 percent of Cowork usage comes from non-engineers. The heaviest adopters are:
- Finance teams automating reconciliation and report prep
- Legal departments summarizing contracts and drafting review notes
- Operations staff routing approvals, updating trackers, and handling data entry
- Sales generating follow-ups, account briefs, and forecast updates
The company acknowledged it initially assumed power users would be programmers, then rebuilt the onboarding and suggested-workflows around professional roles instead.
What Cowork Handles
In its current form, Cowork can open applications and web pages, read and summarize content, draft documents, fill and submit forms, and update spreadsheets, with every action surface for undo before execution. The new mobile experience adds a hands-off review mode: users watch a session run and approve or pause it step by step.
Availability and Pricing
Cowork ships with Claude Pro ($20/month) and all Team and Enterprise plans, with usage-tier limits that scale by seat. Enterprise customers get retention controls, audit logs, and approval gates for high-risk actions. Anthropic said international rollout of the mobile apps follows within weeks, with ambient and admin controls to keep sessions inside company data boundaries.
What This Means
The expansion signals a broader bet: that agentic AI becomes mainstream office software, not just a developer tool. By following its own usage data to finance, legal, and ops teams, Anthropic is positioning Cowork as the productivity layer of the Claude platform — and putting real distance between itself and rivals that still build agents mainly for engineers.
