At Google I/O 2026, Google unveiled a broad set of AI updates across Google Workspace on May 19, 2026. The company framed the changes around a simple idea: let people create and get things done at the speed of their voice and intent, across products used by more than 4 billion people.
Voice-First Gmail, Docs and Keep
The headline addition is conversational voice. Gmail Live lets you ask questions like what your flight gate is and get a synthesized answer from your inbox. Docs Live acts as a thought partner that organizes rambling dictation into a structured first draft, pulling context from Gmail, Drive and Chat with permission. In Keep, spoken notes are turned automatically into organized lists.
Google Pics Brings Creative Control
Google Pics is a new image creation and editing tool built on the latest Nano Banana model. It targets the common frustration of regenerating an entire image to change one detail.
- Object segmentation to move, resize or transform a single element
- Text editing and translation inside an image while preserving fonts
- Workspace integrations starting with Slides and Drive
- Shared canvases for real-time collaboration
Pics launches first to Trusted Testers, then globally to Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer.
Smarter AI Inbox
AI Inbox, announced earlier in the year, gains personalized draft replies, instant links to relevant Docs, Sheets and Slides, and streamlined task management. It expands to all Google AI Plus and Pro subscribers in the US.
Gemini Spark
Gemini Spark is a 24-hour personal AI agent in the Gemini app that moves Gemini from answering questions to taking action. Users control whether it is on, and it is designed to ask first before sending emails or changing your calendar.
Availability
Voice capabilities and Pics reach Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and Workspace business customers over the summer, with Spark arriving soon in preview for business users.
